Finally Configured Creative SB Audigy 2 on OpenSuse 11.2

For years, I was using my Creative Audigy 2 Sound Card on windows. Though I prefer to use OpenSuse, the lack of drivers was holding me back. After upgrading to windows 7, and after a few windows updates, unfortunately the Creative utility started to crash. Hence I started to configure it on OpenSuse 11.2, and well after googling  for a while I was able to make it working.
I had the drivers installed, but could never get any audio out of it. Saw that in yast, the card was showing up as unconfigured. Configured it, and heard the test audio. But mplayer was still outputting through  the in built audio o/p channel. Had to delete the existing card, which made audigy the default card, and that made it working.
Bass and Treble weren't working initially, have to enable  "Tone" to get them working.

Though the audio quality was a little bit, better on windows, (probably the driver on linux needs more work, and creative needs to fund that :) still I am happy with the way it is working on Linux.

So now, I can happily keep my laptop booted in linux !

Kasab's conviction - Anything to rejoice ?????

Kasab the lone terrorist of Mumbai attack, was recently convicted.  The reaction shown in the media, was that  people were welcoming the judgement.

http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news/26-11-case-Kasab-found-guilty-Fahim-Sabahuddin-acquitted/614204/

Let's look at what the prosecution achieved........
Well the only thing, that prosecution achieved was Conviction of kasab for killing people.
Well, if kasab couldn't be convicted for killing, no person in the world can be convicted of murder ! He killed people openly, was caught on CCTV, scores of people saw him. Wasn't it a cakewalk  to convict him ? He had committed a crime in front of so many people.

During the trial, prosecution lawyer Ujjwal Nikkam was bragging, that the pakistani connection needs to proved, and he will prove it. Well  no pakistani connection was proved. And if it cannot be proved in an Indian court, it won't be proved in a pakistani court either.

Two of the accused, Fahim Ansari and Sabahuddin were acquitted. Judge rubbished  the evidence shown by prosecution. The prosecution had shown some shoddy  hand drawn maps, by these two. The judge commented that when google has better maps, why would anyone resort to such shabby maps.

So to summarize, after wasting 271 working days, the prosecution (read Indian government) couldn't prove in its own court, the grand conspiracy it had bragged to unearth. It could only prove facts, which were as clear as daylight. Rest, all were just bragging, with which it could only fool people. And didn't achieved anything concrete. It took them 271 working days, to prove such a simple fact. What a shame. This also proved that incompetent Indian legal system is toothless, and helpless against terrorists, and can only harm innocent people.

Women's Reservation bill in India

Currently there is a lot of discussion going around, the women's reservation bill in India. It has already been passed in Rajya Sabha(the Upper House of Indian Parliament). Many have opposed the bill vehemently. The bill seeks a 33% reservation of women in Parliamentary seats.

So what are the advantages of the bill ? The supporters claim, that more women in power would mean empowerment to women.

Lets have a look at one of the most prominent women politician of today - Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton. She wanted to run for presidency, but was defated by Barack Obama, who eventually won the presidency, winning very comfortably against his Republican rival. The Republicans had targetted Hillary for doing a flip flop on policies. She had vehemently supported US invasion of Iraq. But when things started to get wrong, she started to say, that the war is wrong, and acted, as if she never supported the war. Several news channels beamed both of her speeches. Her political career is not very illustrious. In fact it is not even worth following.

The question is does her being a women, helps the society in any way ? The answer to this seems to be very much in the negative.

Now back to India. It is an open truth, that Sonia Gandhi has very high political ambitions, but due to her nationality, she is facing very stiff resistance. With more women, in he parliament, she hopes to diminish that opposition. Then she can play the women card, and become PM of India. Her mother in law, had followed a policy, where she used to promote incompetent people, so that there were no challengers for her. Similar is the ploy being employed by Sonia Gandhi.

Do Women make good policitians ?

Out of the 59 women MPs, there are pending criminal cases against 10 (17%)

Out of 59 women MPs, 40 are crorepati (68%)

36 of the 59 women MPs are close relatives of male leaders (61%)

Arguments should always be backed by facts.......empty rhetoric, makes one look like a fool

Still many people are living in some imaginary world are supporting the women's reservation bill, intending to reserve 33% of seats in Indian Parliament for women.

"Lajja" Shame or Sham

“The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons” ... Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Recently while flipping through channels, I came across the opening lines of a movie, which said, " blah ... the degree of any civilization, can be judged, from the way it treats women .. " by RajKumar Santoshi. As can be seen from the first line, Rajkumar Santoshi, has shamelessly ripped off a quote from the great Russian writer and philosopher "Fyodor Mikhaylovich Dostoyevsky". Interestingly the name of the movie was "Lajja", which means shame in Hindi. Feminists have a nasty habit of conjuring facts out of thin air. If the opening line of a movie itself, is such a sham, God knows, what will the movie be like.

Judiciary's own mess - Ocean of pending trials

Courts across India are flooded with litigations. The number of pending
litigations is so huge, that by one estimate, it will take thousands of
years to clear up these pending cases. It is quite normal in India, that
trials run for decades, before a judgement is delivered. Justice delayed
is justice denied. This problem is so grave, that Indian citizens, have
lost faith, that they will get justice in Indian courts.

Various reasons for this grave problem are given. one being that the
judicial process is slow. However there is a very important point, which
the judiciary has failed to address. The issue of frivolous complaints.
Most judges in India, do not follow the Procedure laid down, while admitting
cases. Judges do not apply their mind, when a case is brought before them.
This act plays well in the hands of evil people, whose sole motive is to
initiate judicial proceedings to harass someone. Knowing that it will take
years for the trial to end, the ordeal of trial is one of the biggest
punishment being inflicted on innocent people. Common innocent people,
who are not well versed with the law, are an easy prey for such litigations.
It is the job of judiciary to avoid such vexatious litigations. But
unfortunately the judiciary fails miserably on this front.

This problem can be easily solved if the judges apply their mind, while
admitting complaints, or say framing of charges, etc. On paper, the
judiciary says, that "Anyone is innocent, until proven guilty". However
this principle isn't generally applied in practise. Millions of innocent
people have to face the torturous ordeal of trial in India. It is beyond
doubt, that there is rampant corruption in India. Millions of these
innocents have to face the humilating torture of corruption too, through
the judicial offices. One has to pay bribe, even to lay hands on their
own documents. Despite all these issues, it is pretty unfortunate, that
this extremely serious issue, is not gaining much attention in India.

Moronic opposition to BT Brinjal

Recently Greenpeace in India (http://greenpeace.in/) has started a vehement campaign against BT Brinjal. From a plain reading from the articles on greenpeace website, it seems greenpeace just doesn't understands genetic mutation. If it weren't for genetic mutation, humans would never have evolved. Seems some really didn't evolved.
