Congress (NCP), Gandhi, Nehru on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was one of the greatest King of India. His life is a source of inspiration to many Indians and to many even across the world. He created the Hindavi swarajya.
However the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and that of Congress(NCP, Gandhi, Nehru, Communists, Socialists, etc) are the exact opposite. Hence these thugs (Congress, NCP, Nehru, Gandhi, Communists, Socialists, etc) have always tried to portray him as a villian, or downplay his achivements.
During Congress rule, they wrote history books, which falsely glorified Nehru, Gandhi, Congress, while almost removing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj from the school textbooks.

Many authors have written about  Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, prominent amongst them are Ranjit Desai,  Babasaheb Purandare, etc.

Nehru
- He called Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj a dacoit, a mountain rat, treacherous, etc

Gandhi
- He called Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj misguided.

Sharad Pawar (and NCP)
- He towed the Gandhi Congress line. However, being the opportunistic politician, once popularity of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj started increasing again, he tried to portray Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in a totally different way.
Earlier he never took part in any celebration of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
He and his corrupt party are behind the false propaganda about Shivaji Maharaj. And since historians like Ranjeet Desai, Babasaheb Purandare are speaking the truth, Sharad Pawar and his clan are always trying to defame them.
He has created an group of hooligans can has named them "Sambhaji Brigade" (dishonoring the great king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj)

"Sharad Pawar, you are a blot on the Maratha community, you were born into Shivraya's (Shivaji Maharaj's) community by mistake."

—Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray

Gandhi on religion

Mahatma Gandhi is one of the most revered and honored person in India.  Mahatma means a great person. History textbook in Indian schools, show Gandhi as the person who fought British and gave India Independence. In India, Gandhi is termed as "Father of Nation". It is unclear as to who bestowed the title of "Father of Nation" on Gandhi. Some attribute it to Rabrindranath Tagore.

The only source of information about Gandhi to many Indians is mostly the history text that they had read in their schools. Very few actually read the vast literature available on Gandhi. After India became independent, the Congress party gained power, and remained in power for the majority of time. Gandhi was a member of the Congress party. In fact Congress party is very synonymous with Gandhi. Congress party claims that they follow Gandhian principles.

Gandhi was a philosopher. His philosophy is very well articulated in his writings, all of which is available online. Thus it gives a good opportunity to understand his philosophy.

History is a very under-rated subject. One cannot easily make a career in history. Neither can one become rich by becoming a historian. In India, history is a very neglected subject. However history is of utmost importance. History is one of the most important aspect of mankind and every nation. History has a tremendous impact on politics in particular. There is a sizeable population in India, who votes for Congress because they have been taught that India got Independence from British due to Congress. The history books in Indian schools talk about the greatness of Congress and its leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Indira Gandhi. Due to this the name Gandhi has got an aura around itself. It is important to note that officially Mahatma Gandhi and Indira Gandhi are not relatives. But many Indians believe they are related because of the similarity in their last names.

In all totalitarian regimes across the world, one theme is quite common. Project a person and a family as the messiah. Project as if they are super-humans, they are above ordinary human-beings, project as if they are almost God. Write only good things about such persons. Ban all objective analysis of such personalities. This has been witnessed in various countries around the world. The communist/socialist countries being at the forefront of such propaganda. Some of the major countries are/were USSR(Stalin), North Korea (Kim Il-sung and his descendants), China (Mao), Iraq(Saddam Hussein), Libya(Muammar Gaddafi), India(Mahatma Gandhi and Congress). Sooner or later, such subservience to a particular person, results in harm to the nation. History has proved that time and again.

In USSR Stalin was God. He transformed the country to become a super power. In North Korea, Kim Il-sung and his son are treated like God's. No one can question them. In India, similarly if one questions Gandhi, or tries to do an objective analysis of Gandhi, the person doing so is immediately labeled as traitor, communal, etc.

History being one of my favorite subjects from school days, I am constantly reading and analyzing about events and personalities. I have tried to consolidate some not so known facts about Mahatma Gandhi, which many people are not aware. All of the material quoted is available. Gandhi himself was very open about his views. However for political gains, only a certain set of his views are showcased to the general public. One cannot under-estimate the power history has on the Indian voters.
The aim is neither to aggrandize Gandhi or demean him.

Gandhi's viewpoint on Hinduism

What Is Hinduism?
If were asked to define the Hindu creed, I should simply say: Search after Truth through non-violent means. A man may not believe even in God and still call himself a Hindu. Hinduism is a relentless pursuit after Truth and if today it has become moribund, inactive, irresponsive to growth, it is because we are fatigued and as soon as the fatigue is over Hinduism will burst forth upon the world with a brilliance perhaps unknown before. Hinduism is the most tolerant of all religions. Its creed is all embracing.

Hinduism tells every one to worship God according to his own Faith or Dharma and so it lives at peace with all the religions.

Gandhi on cow-slaughter

The cow is as dear as life to a Hindu. The Musalman should, therefore, voluntarily accommodate his Hindu brother.

Cow-protection is the dearest possession of the Hindu and heart. It is the one concrete belief common to all Hindus. No one who does not believe in cow-protection can possibly be a Hindu. It is a noble belief Cow-worship means to me worship of innocence. For me, the cow is the personification of innocence. Cow-protection means the protection of the weak and the helpless. Cow protection means brother hood between man and beast. It is a noble sentiment that must grow by patient toil and tapasya. It cannot be imposed upon anyone. To carry cow-protection at the point of the sword is a contradiction in terms. Rishis of old are said to have performed penance for the sake of the cow. Let us follow in the footsteps of the Rishis, and ourselves do penance, so that we may be pure enough to protect the cow and all that the doctrine means and implies.

The central fact of Hinduism is cow-protection. Cow-protection to me is one of the most wonderful phenomena in human evolution. It takes the human being beyond his species. The cow to me means the entire sub-human world. Man, through the cow, is enjoined to realize his identity with all that lives.

The cow question is a big question, the greatest for a Hindu. I yield to no one in my regard for the cow. Hindus do not fulfill their trust so long as they do not possess the ability to protect the cow. That, ability can be derived either from body force or soul force. To attempt cow-protection by violence is to reduce Hinduism to Satanism and to prostitute to a base end the grand significance of cow-protection.
The Hindus must scrupulously refrain from using any violence against Musalmans. Suffering and trust are attributes of soul-force. I have heard that, at big fairs, if a Musalman is found in possession of cows or even goats, he is at times forcibly dispossessed. Those who, claiming to be Hindus, thus resort to violence, are enemies of the cow and of Hinduism.
I make bold to assert without fear of contradiction, that it is not Hinduism to kill a fellowman even to save the cow.

The Musalman claim that Islam permits them to kill the cow. To make a Musalman, therefore, to abstain from cow-killing under compulsion, would amount in my opinion to converting him to Hinduism by force. Even in India under Swaraj, in my opinion, it would be unwise and improper for a Hindu majority to coerce by legislation a Musalman minority into submission to statutory prohibition of cow-slaughter.

The conversion(of thought) of only one party is enough because the solution requires no bargains. For instance, the Hindus should cease to worry the Musalmans about the cow without expecting any consideration from the later. Hindus should yield to the Musalman demand whatever it may be regarding representation, again without requiring any return. And if the Musalmans insist on stopping the Hindu music or arati by force, the Hindus will continue playing it although every single Hindu should die at his post without retaliation. The Musalmans will then be shamed into doing the right thing in an incredibly short space of time.

Only Solution

But how is the cure (of Hindu-Muslim tension) to be effected? Who will convince the Hindu maniac that the best way to save the cow is for him to do his duty be her and not goad his Musalman brother? Who will convince the Musalman fanatic that it is not religion but irreligion to break the head of his Hindu brother when he plays music in front of his mosque? Or, again , who will make the Hindu see that he will lose nothing by the minorities being even over-represented on the elective public secular bodies? These are fair questions and show the difficulty to working out the solution.

It is to be noted that Vinayak Sawarkar (who had coined the term "Hindutva") had stated that cow should not be worshiped.

On Nationalism

When Hindu or a Musalman does evil, it is evil done by an Indian to an Indian, and each one of us must personally share the blame and try to remove the evil. There is no other meaning to unity than this Nationalism is nothing if it is not at least this. Nationalism is greater than sectarianism. And in that sense, we are Indians first and Hindus, Musalmans, Parsis and Christians after.

The Mussalman masses do not still recognise the same necessity for Swaraj, as the Hindus do. The Mussalmans do not flock to public meetings in the same number as Hindus. This process cannot be forced.

Large Heartedness

I know that Hindus are in a numerical majority, and that they are believed to be more advanced in knowledge and education. Accordingly, they should be glad to give way so much the more to their Mohammedan brethren. As a man of Truth, I honestly believe that Hindus should yield up to the Mohammedans what the latter desire, and that they should rejoice in so doing.

Communal Slogans

Cries of Vande Mataram, Jai Bharat or Jai Hind frighten the Musalmans today. Are they shouts of Bharat Ki Jai (Victory of India) going to mean MUsalman ki Kshay (destruction for Musalmans)? It is a matter of shame that thing shave been brought to such a pass.

ALLAH O AKBAR

I hold that it (the cry of Allah-O-Akbar) is probably a cry than which a greater one has not been produced by the world. It is a soul-stirring religious cry which means, God only is great. There is nobility in the meaning. Does it become objectionable because it is Arabic? I admit that it has, in India, a questionable association. It often terrifies the Hindus because, sometimes, the Muslims in anger come out of the mosques with this cry on their lips to belabow the Hindus. I confess that the original had no such association. So far as I know, the cry has no such association in other part of the world. If, therefore, there is to be a lasting friendship between the two, the Hindus should have no hesitation in uttering the cry together with their Muslim friends. God is known by many names and has many attributes. Rama, Rahim, Krishna, Karim, are all names of the one God. Sat Shri Akal (God is True) is an equally potent cry. Should a single Muslim or Hindu hesitate to utter it? It means that God is and nothing else is. The Ramadhun has the same virtue.

Vande Mataram

I now come to Vande Mataram. That is no religious cry. It is a purely political cry. The Congress had to examine it. A reference was made Gurudev about it. And both Hindus and Muslim members of the Congress Working Committee had to come to the conclusion that its opening lines are free from any possible objection. I plead that it should be sung together by all on due occasion. It should never be a chant to insult or offend the Muslims. It is to be remembered that it is the cry that had fired political Bengal. Many Bengalis have given up their lives for political freedom with that cry on their lips.

PSYCHOLOGY OF FEAR

"There is no doubt in my mind that in the majority of quarrels the Hindus come out second best. My own experience but confirms the opinion that the Musalman as a rule is a bully, and the Hindu as rule is a coward. I have notices this in railways trains, on public roads, and in the quarrels which I have had the privilege of setting. Need the Hindu blame the Musalman for his cowardice?
Quarrels must break out so long as the Hindus continue to be seized with fear. Bullies are always to be found where there are cowards. The Hindus must understand no one can afford them protection if they go on hugging fear.
Running away for fear of death, leaving one’s dear ones, temples or music to take care of themselves, is irreligion; it is cowardice. It is not manly, it is unmanly. Non-violence is the virtue of the manly. The coward is innocent of it.
The remedy against cowardice is not physical culture but the braving of dangers. So long as the parents of the a middle class Hindus, themselves timid, continue to transmit their timidity by keeping their grown-up children in cotton wool, so long will there be the desire to shun danger and run no risks. They will have to dare to leave their children alone. Let them run risks and even at times get killed in so doing. The puniest individual may have a stout heart. The most muscular Zulus cower before English lads. Each village has to find out its stout hearts.

Nothing is possible without the Hindus shedding their timidity. Theirs is the largest stake and they must be prepared to sacrifice the most.

True Hindu-Muslim unity requires Mussalmans to tolerate not as a virtue of necessity, not as a policy, but as part of their religion, the religion of others so long as they, the latter, believe it to be true.

Letter to G.D. Birla on 16-4-1926.

I do not believe that the Muslims are more markedly ungrateful than members of any other community; but I have observed that they lose temper more quickly.

"... Hindus think that they are physically weaker than the Mussalmans. The latter consider themselves to be weak in educational and earthly equipment. They are now doing that all weak bodies have done hitherto. This fighting therefore, however unfortunate it may be, is a sign of growth. It is like the Wars  of the Roses. Out of it will rise a mighty nation." (31:368)

Cure of Cowardice

It is common cause between the correspondent and myself that the average Hindu is a coward. How is he to be turned into a brave man? Is he to become brave by muscular development or by developing the bravery of the soul? My correspondent says, ‘The world has no place for the weak’. He means, I imagine, ‘physically weak’. If so, the proposition is unsound. There are many animals physically stronger than man and yet man lives. Many muscular races have died out and some of them are even now in the process of dying out. the proposition should therefore be, so far as man is concerned, ‘The world has no place for the weak in spirit’.

Cowardice Behind Riots

These cases (of cowardice) have nothing to do with the inveterate enmity between the Hindus and Musalmans. Where there are fools there are bound to be knaves, where there are cowards there are bound to be bullies, whether they are Hindus or Musalmans. Such cases used to happen even before the outbreak of these communal hostilities. The question here therefore is not how to teach one of the two communities a lesson or how to humanize it, but how to teach a coward to be brave.
If the thinking sections of both the communities realize the cowardice and folly at the back of the hostilities, we can easily end them. Both have to be brave, both have to be wise. If both or either deliberately get wise, theirs will be the way of non-violence. If both fight and learn wisdom only by bitter experience, the way will be one of violence. Either way there is no room for cowards in the society of men, i.e., in a society which loves freedom. Swaraj is not for cowards.
Cowardice should no place in the national dictionary.

Riots

Fight Goondas

What I detest is the match between the goondas of both the parties. Any peace based upon such a trial of strength will turn to bitterness in the end. The way to get rid of the Hindu cowardice is for the educated portion to fight the goondas. We may use sticks and other clean weapons. My Ahimsa will allow the use of them. We shall be killed in the fight. But that will chasten both the Hindus and the Musalmans. That would remove the Hindu cowardice in a moment. As things are going, each party will be the slaves of their own goondas. That means dominance of the military power.
My whole soul rises against the very idea of the custody of my religion passing into the hands of goondas. Confining myself, therefore, for the present to the Hindus, I must respectfully but earnestly warn the thinking Hindus against relying upon the assistance of goondas for the protection of their temples, themselves and their wives and children. With the weak bodies they have, they must determined to stand at their post and to die fighting or without fighting. It would have been a glorious death for Jamanlalji and his colleagues, if they had died in the act of securing peace. It will be a glorious death fort Dr. Moonje or me, when we defend temples single-handed. That were bravery of the spirit indeed.

Speech at A.I.C.C., Lahore on 27-12-1924 at the Subjects Committee Meeting:

its fold for the battle of independence. Even if you have got unavoidable dimensions, still we should act unitedly within the Congress. If Mussalmans cut the throats of Hindus let them cut it. But the consolation there must be, that we  have got freedom.

Speech at Gandhi Seva Sangh meeting on 27-3-193.8.

"If we have formed the notion that we should suffer the atrocities of the Muslims in mute submissiveness it is absolutely wrong. If until today I have not said that we must also resist injustice inflicted by them, here I say it now. We should now tell the Muslims also that they have been unjust and, if they beat us up for saying it, we should get beaten up." (66:450)

Speech at a prayer meeting on 4-11-1946.
".. .The Congress belongs to the people, the Muslim League belongs to our Muslim brothers and sisters. If Congressmen fail to protect the Mussalmans where the Congress is in power, then what is the use of a Congress Premier?

Establishment of Communal Peace

We have to be correct in our behavior irrespective of what others do. I am not unaware of the sufferings of the Hindus and the Sikhs in Pakistan. But knowing that, I want to overlook them. Otherwise, I will go mad. I will not be able to serve India. We are to look upon the Muslims in the Union as our blood-brothers.

Talking to relief workers of Chandpur on 7-11-1946.
" . . .You will see I am not, as I have already said, asking you just now to unlearn the use of arms or to follow my type of heroism. I have not made it good even in my own case. I have come here to test it in East Bengal. I want you to take up the conventional type of heroism. You should be able to infect others —both men and women—with courage and fearlessness to face death when the alternative is
dishonour and humiliation. Then the Hindus can stay in East Bengal not otherwise. After all Musslmans are blood of our blood and bone of our bone." (86:91)

At a prayer meeting in Patna on 12-3-1947.
"Those who desecrated the mosque were not men but devils, because mosques,
temples or churches are all houses of the Lord . . . If Muslims are about to desecrate a temple, it becomes my duty to prevent them from their vandalism, irrespective of my not being an idol worshipper. I should hug the idol and request them not to demolish the temple. I should lay down my life to protect the idol but refuse to hand it over to them. My entreaties will impress them, they will realise that I mean no harm to them and they will become my friends." (87:74)

" . . .We should not spread poison. On the other hand we should try to prevent it from spreading. If someone commits murder we should be sorry because the murderer after all is our own brother. There must be something wrong in us, that is why our brother could stoop to such a sin." (87:78)

Religious Education

I am also opposed to state aid partly or wholly to religious bodies. For I know that an institution or group which does not manage to finance its own religious teachings is a stranger to true religion. This does not mean that the state schools will not give ethical teaching. The fundamental ethics are common to all religions.

Assembly elections 2014

Think before voting for BJP in 2014 assembly elections

Experiences while flashing motorokr E6

http://modmymobile.com/forums/56-rokr-e6-ming-a1200/61759-guide-how-flash-your-e6.html
The above link contains comprehensive information as to how to flash motorokr e6. As is always the case, it was not a smooth ride for me. I have listed the issues I faced, and possible workaround. Found that for some weird reasons, things sometimes won't work, and you have to try the same thing multiple times.

Battery needs to be fully charged, as during the flashing battery drains _very_ fast - maybe say in 30 mins.

Issue 1->  I was not able to get the boot screen.
Solution -> Seems this made it work -> Had to copy the sbf file to the memory card. After this booted the phone, (while the phone was already connected to PC, via USB cable). The phone automatically went into USB mode, and  I got the boot screen. While pressing the camera-key + Power(Red) key, press the camera-key first.

Issue 2 ->  RSD lite wasn't detecting the phone.
Solution -> Installed the motorola drivers. "USB_Drivers_32_bit_4.6.5"
In Above points, it was mentioned, to not let windows install its drivers, but to do that, via motorola drivers. On Win 7, need to execute the binary(SDL.exe) as "Run-As Admin..."  that makes a huge  difference.

Issue 3 -> Flash failure. With the message -> ""Failed flashin process. Phone [0000]: Phone is not compatible with multi interface super file. (0x703B); phone connected""
Some had suggested, that this problem can arise,
                                - if the battery is below 70%.
                                - Right click on "SDL.exe" and click "Run As Administrator".
                                - The firmware file is not kept in C:\

Saw that error file was created, and it had the below contents in it.

Solution -> Copied patch file, in RSDLite 4.5.3.  During startup, got message, that modem driver will be installed. I guess modem mode is needed. After that the flashing  process started.

Issue 4 -> The flashing went ahead, and gave below error
                11:40:49,  May 08, 2012

Solution -> Tried with a different USB port, and it worked. Didn't let windows install the drivers, seems it is not needed. Installing the USB drivers from motorola suffices.

Example of biased Police behaviour

A letter to the journalist Nishant Sarwankar of marathi daily Loksatta.

Dear Nishant,
Recently I read your article in loksatta, dated 25th Jan 2011 in Mumbai Vrutant.
 http://www.loksatta.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=131549:2011-01-24-15-18-27&catid=41:2009-07-15-03-58-17&Itemid=81

Some points from the news item.

This and the preceding content in the article, shows that actually the P.I Shyam Parulekar, bowed down to pressure, and registered a baseless complaint.  The P.I. has shown helplessness, while in reality, he should have had stood his ground, and refused to collaborate with these  people.

गुन्हा नोंदविलेला असल्यामुळे त्या तरुणाला अटक करणे त्यांना भाग होते.
Nothing can be farther from truth. Criminal Procedure Code, doesn't makes arrest "mandatory" specifically in offences of the class of 498A. The P.I. did the arrest, just to please the women. The P.I. certainly showed a lack of courage and truth. The P.I.  also doesn't seems to be aware of CrPC 41A ammendments, done in 2010.

The article printed in loksatta, also says, that the P.I. slapped the husband. It is further written, that he did this, to generate sympathy for the husband. Nice. Is beating an innocent person, the only way to generate sympathy for him ?

Point is you have painted the P.I. as a hero, when in fact he has acted as per the whims and wishes of a women, who had money and connections. And in the process he has harassed an innocent person, fully knowing well, that the charges are false. This also shows, that the faith reposed by CrPC in Investigating Officer is so incorrect. In fact, this story shows how a police officer has abused his power.  Instead of criticizing such biased and morally corrupt officer, you are praising him ?

Finally Configured Creative SB Audigy 2 on OpenSuse 11.2

For years, I was using my Creative Audigy 2 Sound Card on windows. Though I prefer to use OpenSuse, the lack of drivers was holding me back. After upgrading to windows 7, and after a few windows updates, unfortunately the Creative utility started to crash. Hence I started to configure it on OpenSuse 11.2, and well after googling  for a while I was able to make it working.
I had the drivers installed, but could never get any audio out of it. Saw that in yast, the card was showing up as unconfigured. Configured it, and heard the test audio. But mplayer was still outputting through  the in built audio o/p channel. Had to delete the existing card, which made audigy the default card, and that made it working.
Bass and Treble weren't working initially, have to enable  "Tone" to get them working.

Though the audio quality was a little bit, better on windows, (probably the driver on linux needs more work, and creative needs to fund that :) still I am happy with the way it is working on Linux.

So now, I can happily keep my laptop booted in linux !

Kasab's conviction - Anything to rejoice ?????

Kasab the lone terrorist of Mumbai attack, was recently convicted.  The reaction shown in the media, was that  people were welcoming the judgement.

http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news/26-11-case-Kasab-found-guilty-Fahim-Sabahuddin-acquitted/614204/

Let's look at what the prosecution achieved........
Well the only thing, that prosecution achieved was Conviction of kasab for killing people.
Well, if kasab couldn't be convicted for killing, no person in the world can be convicted of murder ! He killed people openly, was caught on CCTV, scores of people saw him. Wasn't it a cakewalk  to convict him ? He had committed a crime in front of so many people.

During the trial, prosecution lawyer Ujjwal Nikkam was bragging, that the pakistani connection needs to proved, and he will prove it. Well  no pakistani connection was proved. And if it cannot be proved in an Indian court, it won't be proved in a pakistani court either.

Two of the accused, Fahim Ansari and Sabahuddin were acquitted. Judge rubbished  the evidence shown by prosecution. The prosecution had shown some shoddy  hand drawn maps, by these two. The judge commented that when google has better maps, why would anyone resort to such shabby maps.

So to summarize, after wasting 271 working days, the prosecution (read Indian government) couldn't prove in its own court, the grand conspiracy it had bragged to unearth. It could only prove facts, which were as clear as daylight. Rest, all were just bragging, with which it could only fool people. And didn't achieved anything concrete. It took them 271 working days, to prove such a simple fact. What a shame. This also proved that incompetent Indian legal system is toothless, and helpless against terrorists, and can only harm innocent people.

Women's Reservation bill in India

Currently there is a lot of discussion going around, the women's reservation bill in India. It has already been passed in Rajya Sabha(the Upper House of Indian Parliament). Many have opposed the bill vehemently. The bill seeks a 33% reservation of women in Parliamentary seats.

So what are the advantages of the bill ? The supporters claim, that more women in power would mean empowerment to women.

Lets have a look at one of the most prominent women politician of today - Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton. She wanted to run for presidency, but was defated by Barack Obama, who eventually won the presidency, winning very comfortably against his Republican rival. The Republicans had targetted Hillary for doing a flip flop on policies. She had vehemently supported US invasion of Iraq. But when things started to get wrong, she started to say, that the war is wrong, and acted, as if she never supported the war. Several news channels beamed both of her speeches. Her political career is not very illustrious. In fact it is not even worth following.

The question is does her being a women, helps the society in any way ? The answer to this seems to be very much in the negative.

Now back to India. It is an open truth, that Sonia Gandhi has very high political ambitions, but due to her nationality, she is facing very stiff resistance. With more women, in he parliament, she hopes to diminish that opposition. Then she can play the women card, and become PM of India. Her mother in law, had followed a policy, where she used to promote incompetent people, so that there were no challengers for her. Similar is the ploy being employed by Sonia Gandhi.

Do Women make good policitians ?

Out of the 59 women MPs, there are pending criminal cases against 10 (17%)

Out of 59 women MPs, 40 are crorepati (68%)

36 of the 59 women MPs are close relatives of male leaders (61%)

Arguments should always be backed by facts.......empty rhetoric, makes one look like a fool

Still many people are living in some imaginary world are supporting the women's reservation bill, intending to reserve 33% of seats in Indian Parliament for women.

"Lajja" Shame or Sham

“The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons” ... Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Recently while flipping through channels, I came across the opening lines of a movie, which said, " blah ... the degree of any civilization, can be judged, from the way it treats women .. " by RajKumar Santoshi. As can be seen from the first line, Rajkumar Santoshi, has shamelessly ripped off a quote from the great Russian writer and philosopher "Fyodor Mikhaylovich Dostoyevsky". Interestingly the name of the movie was "Lajja", which means shame in Hindi. Feminists have a nasty habit of conjuring facts out of thin air. If the opening line of a movie itself, is such a sham, God knows, what will the movie be like.

Judiciary's own mess - Ocean of pending trials

Courts across India are flooded with litigations. The number of pending
litigations is so huge, that by one estimate, it will take thousands of
years to clear up these pending cases. It is quite normal in India, that
trials run for decades, before a judgement is delivered. Justice delayed
is justice denied. This problem is so grave, that Indian citizens, have
lost faith, that they will get justice in Indian courts.

Various reasons for this grave problem are given. one being that the
judicial process is slow. However there is a very important point, which
the judiciary has failed to address. The issue of frivolous complaints.
Most judges in India, do not follow the Procedure laid down, while admitting
cases. Judges do not apply their mind, when a case is brought before them.
This act plays well in the hands of evil people, whose sole motive is to
initiate judicial proceedings to harass someone. Knowing that it will take
years for the trial to end, the ordeal of trial is one of the biggest
punishment being inflicted on innocent people. Common innocent people,
who are not well versed with the law, are an easy prey for such litigations.
It is the job of judiciary to avoid such vexatious litigations. But
unfortunately the judiciary fails miserably on this front.

This problem can be easily solved if the judges apply their mind, while
admitting complaints, or say framing of charges, etc. On paper, the
judiciary says, that "Anyone is innocent, until proven guilty". However
this principle isn't generally applied in practise. Millions of innocent
people have to face the torturous ordeal of trial in India. It is beyond
doubt, that there is rampant corruption in India. Millions of these
innocents have to face the humilating torture of corruption too, through
the judicial offices. One has to pay bribe, even to lay hands on their
own documents. Despite all these issues, it is pretty unfortunate, that
this extremely serious issue, is not gaining much attention in India.

Moronic opposition to BT Brinjal

Recently Greenpeace in India (http://greenpeace.in/) has started a vehement campaign against BT Brinjal. From a plain reading from the articles on greenpeace website, it seems greenpeace just doesn't understands genetic mutation. If it weren't for genetic mutation, humans would never have evolved. Seems some really didn't evolved.

Ajab Desk ke Gajab Kayde

India is a country of huge contradictions. Its gender biased laws is a prime example of this.
Have a look at the below scenarios
- If wife complains(falsely), she gains sympathy of everyone, husband goes to jail, if husband complains of harassment(even if true), everyone laughs at him. People tell him, to be a man !

- IPC 304b is for dowry deaths, 498a was also created for same purpose.

- Only wife has rights, indian law forgets the ancient indian adage, that a women is wife for a short time, and a mother forever. No rights for any other role of women except women.

- If wife lies in court, law is soft on her. She is an abla nari. If husband lies, prosecute him.

Indian Pride Destroyed : Archaic Indian Laws

Many Indians (not all) believe that India is a great nation. These people don't even know what are the qualities that makes a nation "great". Law of any nation, and its implementation is one of the most important and fundamental factor in any countries greatness very important factor. India fails miserably on this front.

The most shameful fact for India is that most of the laws that make up the Indian Judicial system, are derived from the British. The very people, whom they drove out of their country. In fact, much of the criminal code, that is still followed in India is the creation of Lord Macualay, who by some accounts had scant regards of India's past.

In India the conviction rate is terribly less. More then 65% of people in Indian prisons are undertrials. Given the miserable conviction rate in India - hardly 25%. It is very clear that more then half of prisoners are wrongly imprisoned. More then 80% of arrests are made for bailable crimes. Such is the unjust legal system of India, which is actually tyrannical. Most Indians are infact are very much unaware of the reality. Even if they knew, as many of them are apathetic, they would just try to run away from the reality.
For the curious, have a look at data from NCRB (National Crime Research Bureau) http://ncrb.nic.in/

Fellow Indians, Are you still proud to be an Indian ?

India's (pervert) Obsession to be a Super Power

Many (well educated) Indians always dream of India being a Super Power. What adds fuel to this dream, is the continued news barrage, of how India's economy is growing, and how it will overtake United States, and China.

If quality of life is taken into consideration, hundreds of millions of Indians live a miserable life. The government doesn't takes care of them, neither do wealthy Indians. That's the reason, the actual number of people, living in dire poverty actually hasn't came down.
If one looks at India objectively, one sees a nation, whose GDP is amongst the fastest growing in the world. On the the other hand, India is full of corruption, and a very incompetent legal system. Judiciary and Police are the two important arms of the govt, which ensures, that citizens of that country get justice. But both these arms are extremely pathetic. The police force is very corrupt, and incomptent. It has totally failed to maintain law and order.
Same goes for the judiciary. One cannot expect justice from the Indian judiciary. Delays of years is the norm in India's courts. And even after years and years of delay, one cannot expect to get justice.

India is actually light years away from being a Super Power, and it is nowhere on the path to become one. Masses of asses don't mean anything. They are just cannon fodder. The sooner majority of Indians realize this, the better it is for the country.

Dubai - Paradise for some, hell for some

Nice article about Dubai

http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/johann-hari/the-dark-side-of-dubai-1664368.html

Explains its dark side, which isn't revealed often. How people(mostly construction workers) are exploited, in a modern-day form of slavery.

The Recession

So we have a recession now, which is best defined by Harry Truman, as "It's a recession when your neighbour loses his job; it's a depression when you lose yours "
This is the second recession, that I am seeing. The previous one, was the one in 2001, when the dot-com bubble burst. There are some differences though.

That recession, was mostly IT specific. Other industries, were hit, but not as bad. People knew, that dot com bubble, was going to burst, though, most of them (including me) hadn't thought, it would be so bad. That also saw layoffs in indian s/w companies, a thing, many people, never dreamt of, at that time.
Till 2000, indian s/w companies, were hiring like crazy, and suddenly got hit, by the recession. Till the time, they knew about the recession, it was a bit late, and they had excess employees on their payroll. The size of IT industry in India was comparatively very less. I guess it was below $10 billion.Though, within 2-3 years, the recession in Indian IT was gone, and it was back to hiring binge, and the pace was greater then the one in late 90's.

This time, things are different. I am no longer a guy with 1-2 years experience :-) which might actually be a bad thing in a recession. The recession has hit most of the sectors. Auto, finance and realty are the worst hit. And it is spreading to other sectors. Though layoffs haven't yet started on a large scale. If the recession continues for a longer time, there might be layoffs. There are recruitment freezes everywhere now. Projects are being put on hold, and the usual recession related stuff is doing the rounds(no pay hikes, though in these times, most people are happy enough to have a job) .
Actually even this time, the recession was in the offing. Most people just didn't took a clue from the downward slide of the BSE sensex.

On the positive side, the hit on realty, was very much expected. The rates were (and still are) pretty inflated by speculators. Hopefully the downward slide in realty will last longer then the recession.

Patents and Innovation

Recently, at the place, where I work, there was a talk on patent process. In this age, companies
are trying hard to build a good patent portfolio. While we were discussing about patents, someone
remarked - encouraging Patent fosters innovation. Nothing can be farther from truth. In fact, FSF
and some like minded guys have exactly the opposite outlook. According to them patents kill
innovation !

So, do patents kill innovation or do they promote innovation ? If one looks at software(including
networking) industry, it is clear, that networking, particularly TCP/IP is one field, which has
truly revolutionized our lives. Other is the PC. Also one remarkable thing about these two
technologies, was the lack of patents filed around these technologies. Imagine what would have
happened, if TCP/IP would have been patented, and there weren't publicly and freely
available RFC's. And even if someone gets them, they have to pay a huge royalty to use TCP/IP.
That would have discouraged companies/institutions from using TCP/IP, and we wouldn't have the
phenomenon called the www.

Most of the technologies, that we use, gained widespread adoption, because they were good,
and more importantly they were much more open, then their counterparts. NFS is a good
example of this. Sun, put the protocol in public domain, and the result is that NFS gained so much
acceptance.

Patents might not be necessarily evil, but to say that they "foster innovation" is ridiculous, and
people, who say that, do not understand innovation.

OpenSuse 11.0

After playing with KDE4.0 (OpenSuse 11.0), I have installed KDE 3.* . From what I have read, opensuse and other vendors have bundled a half backed version of KDE 4, they should have waited for KDE 4.1 to be out. I really hated the fact that Konsole didn't allowed me to switch between shells, using Short-Cut keys. That is my most used application, and I cannot live without the short cut keys. Even plain/simple Linux console allows that :-)

Most of the apps, seem half baked (WIP). Though I really liked the display of KDE4, and would switch to it, once it becomes stable(I hope 4.1 is better), and more importantly Konsole is improved.

OpenSuse 11.0

Recently(well just today) I installed OpenSuse 11.0. I was a bit excited to see
the all new KDE 4 desktop, that came alongwith. After installing, OpenSuse(OS),
the first thing I noticed was that the fonts were better looking, and more crisp,
then in 10.3. Note -> I did a clean re-install, not an upgrade. After browsing
through the system for a while, I noticed that Alt-Tab combination wasn't working
well sometimes. The configuration of desktop has changed quite a bit.

The thing, that was annoying me most, however was that I was not able to
do an update. Yast kept giving error, about malformed URL. Since I was
able to browse net using firefox, I was a bit intrigued. The soln was, I had to
configure Proxy under Yast,. And the proxy I was using had a diff port number,
which I had to give in the proxy's URL. So my proxy looked like
http://proxy....com:Port_Number , after that things worked well.
